Armor shell defused

On July 13, 2010, a shell was unearthed at the construction site in Homeruskwartier (Almere Poort) during excavation work. The shell had a length of about 82 cm. and a diameter of 24 cm. The EODD was alerted by the Police Almere and defused the shell. After looking at the pictures I am almost certain that this is an Armored shell with a caliber of 24 cm. The same caliber that was also used at Fort Pampus. Also because it was found within the firing range of the Pampus artillery. What is also certain is that shooting exercises were indeed held in the past with that heavy artillery. The only forts in this region that also shot with the same caliber were the Works on the IJ near Diemerdam and near Durgerdam, however, these are a lot further west so the shell found is out of their range. I will not be surprised if in the future several "Pampus" shells will be found near there.

There are now two of them on Pampus. (See page "Historical finds")
