I would like to introduce myself. My name is Peter Claesen, I am 80 years old and married to Agnes and we have a son, Fabian.
Since July 1996 I am retired and keep me nice and busy with various hobbies. Which include photography, modeling, gardening and for several years I started drawing and painting. As a child / adolescent, I could reasonably draw, at least that was always told.
At sixteen, I wanted to see something of the world and enlisted as a professional in the Royal Navy. I served there for about thirty-seven years until July 1996, when I went on functional age release (FLO). All that time I never did anything more about drawing. Painting has always intrigued me and I wanted to try my hand at it.
By coincidence I came by way of Agnes ( who by the way has as a hobby making her own decorative and greeting cards, see her own part of this website "All sorts of cards made bij Agnes" to the address of a painter who gives lessons at home. Agnes wanted to take drawing lessons from her. I took painting lessons with her. After a year of lessons I stopped because I got the impression that I was there more for her pleasure than to learn something myself.
To be fair, I must say that she can paint, draw and watercolor beautifully. But she is an elderly lady who, precisely because of her advanced age, also enjoys sociability. But that doesn't teach me anything. From that time on, I just teach myself from the books which fortunately there are plenty. Therefore, I also appreciate constructive criticism from viewers so that I can improve my future paintings. You can express that criticism by filling in the contact form on the right.
In addition to these hobbies, I have been a volunteer with the Pampus Fort Island Foundation since spring 1997. This means that I regularly guide visitors around the fortress island during the season. I also train aspiring guides and keep myself busy with the history of this impressive structure and as such I also design and take care of the information boards on Pampus. For two 3-year terms, I have also served as chairman of the Volunteer Council of the Pampus Fort Island Foundation until the spring of 2020. And, you may not believe it, despite all these activities I still have free time left to do other fun things together with Agnes as well.
